The first show of the weekend took place on Friday night on the slick floor of the John Paul Jones Arena. Sims would start off with a bang by getting a 25 in the wheelie contest and trying for 3rd place in the contest with Diehl Wilson and Virginia Giant. In racing both Van Horn and Sims would be taken out in the first round but Sims recieved the fast loser only to advance to the finals against Mike Vaters driving Black Stallion where Sims would take the first ever racing win in the brand new facility. In the donut competition Sims would spin the Stone Crusher in for a solid third place effort with a 27 behind Grave Digger and Virginia Giant. Sims put the crowd on their feet in freestyle putting together a great run to score a 29 but it would fall just short of Adam Anderson scoring a 30 in Grave Digger.
On Saturday night Sims looked to continue with his winning ways while Van Horn looked to improve on the results from the night before. Van Horn would take the early lead in the wheelie contest with a tailgate dragging wheelie to score a 27 that would tie for second in the contest. Racing started off with Van Horn defeating Adam Anderson while Sims would defeat Trey Myers and Iron Warrior to advance to the semi finals. Van Horn and Anderson would meet again in the semi finals but Anderson would narrowly take out Van Horn but Sims would take the win against friday night's runner up Mike Vaters to take on Anderson in the finals. The finals would be the most exciting race of the weekend with Sims making one of the fastest passes on the weekend only for the truck to endo accross the finish line for the win before sliding into Iron Warrior at the end of the arena. Sims would come out un-injured Stone Crusher though was another story. The truck suffered damage to the roll cage so to be safe the team along with the USHRA officials decided it was time for Stone Crusher to call it a night leaving Van Horn to carry the banner for the rest of the event. The donut contest would see Van Horn whip Pure Adrenaline around the floor in a wicked hands out he window donut for a 24 and in freestyle Van Horn put down a great run with big air and some good wheelies earning a 27 and a second place finish in freestyle to close out the weekend. Now the team looks to carry their momentum into the final event for the first quarter in Richmond, Virginia this weekend. |
