Stone Crusher Dominates in Hampton

November 15, 2009

-The Stone Crusher team returned to the Hampton Coliseum for it's final event of the year in front of the hometown crowd. Although Friday the 13th is considered a day of bad luck it certainly wasn't one for Steve Sims. Sims started off strong with a second place finish in the wheelie contest behind team mate Mopar Magic. In racing Sims was able to make it to the finals and come away with a win over Randy Brown and Grave Digger. In freestyle, it was a big air assault from the Sims in the tight confines of the Coliseum. The run would score well and come up just one point shy of the win. On Saturday the fans packed the house as a sell out crowd was on hand cheering their hometown hero. Sims once again was strong in the wheelie competition finishing second to Mopar Magic. In racing the Stone Crusher continued to look strong and made it to the final round against El Toro Loco. Sims was able to come away with the win but a bad bounce nearly sent the Stone Crusher over. The truck got up onto the sidewalls but Sims was able to save the truck from rolling over. After the close call in racing Sims let it all hang out in freestyle with great momentum, huge leaps, and even a crossthread of the FMX hill. The run would be good enough for the win edging out Grave Digger by one point. At end of the weekend the Stone Crusher came away with three wins and three second place finishes to close out the season. Now the team is getting ready for first quarter. Carl VanHorn stepped in to pilot the Stone Crusher for Steve Sims. VanHorn performed well throughout the weekend putting the truck into the semi-finals for all three shows including a final round appearance Sunday. VanHorn also performed great in freestyle with great momentum and was the only driver to hit the RV stack on Saturday night. "I've always been about performing for the fans so I just wanted to put on a good show," said VanHorn. Stone Crusher Soars In Charlotte!

August 18, 2009

-After four years the Stone Crusher team made it's return to the Dirt Track At Lowe's Motor Speedway for the 10th Annual Back To School bash. Former teammate Carl VanHorn took over the reigns of the Stone Crusher for the weekend while Steve Sims was unable to attend the event. VanHorn was excited to be behind the wheel for the first time in six months and there was no rust showing when he took to the challenging crossover track as he qualified second out of the field of ten. In the first round the Stone Crusher took out Brutus by half a truck length in one of the closest races of the night. Once again in the second round Stone Crusher squared off with Brutus after Chris Bergeron returned as a fast loser however VanHorn won with ease. In the semi-finals the teammates faced off as Stone Crusher took out Mopar Magic to make it into the finals against Equalizer. VanHorn came away with the hole shot and remained close but a bad jump on the final stretch sent the truck sideways costing Stone Crusher the win.

Following the tough second place finish in racing VanHorn came out charging in freestyle with a great high speed slap wheelie along the backstretch and a huge leap over a van stack. A bad bounce however damaged a four-link bar as VanHorn attempted to go into a donut the rear end of the truck came loose and sent the Stone Crusher on it's lid. VanHorn emerged unscathed however the same could not be said for the truck as all four four-link bars were broken along with the driveshaft and several shocks. West Lebanon and Stafford Springs Recaps

July 28, 2009

-The Stone Crusher team made the trek to New York to one of monster truck racing's most legendary venues for their first visit to the Lebanon Valley Speedway. The notoriously difficult front stretch was tough to tame in racing but driver Steve Sims managed to get into the semi-finals Tuesday night. In freestyle Sims was strong delivering great performances in all three shows including a second place effort Wednesday night that had crowd up and cheering.

After West Lebanon the team was off to Stafford Springs to visit another one of monster truck racing's storied summer stops at the Stafford Motor Speedway. Saturday afternoon saw the beginning of the weekend's action and Steve Sims found himself in the finals despite losing in the semi-finals to Randy Brown and the Grave Digger due to engine troubles but Tom Meents was unstoppable and took the win. After racing turned in a solid freestyle performance earning a 23 for his efforts. Just hours later they were back at it for the night show. After a tie for second in the wheelie contest and a first round exit in racing it was onto freestyle. The Stone Crusher was charging hard with big air and good momentum when a jump over the van stack tossed the truck sideways in the air causing the truck roll over hard. Sims emerged unscathed but the same could not be said for the truck. Broken shocks, four-link bars, and damage to the cradle would sideline the Stone Crusher for Sunday's event. This weekend it's back to Virginia for the Stone Crusher for two nights of action at the Augusta Expoland in Fishersville, Virginia. Stone Crusher Wins Racing In Syracuse!

June 3, 2009

-After a little time off the Stone Crusher team returned to action in Syracuse, New York this past weekend. Steve Sims got the sold out crowd fired up early in the wheelie contest with two near vertical leaps that would tie him for second with Grave Digger. In racing Sims was taken out by Aaron Basl and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle but was able to return as a fast loser. That lucky break was all that Sims need as he took out Grave Digger in the semi-finals and would move on to face Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction in the finals. Sims managed to get the whole shot and was able to settle down in the second no-mans land and flew the Stone Crusher to the win. Fresh off the racing win Sims came out in freestyle like a man possesed soaring over the obstacles. A cut tire would end his run prematurely scoring a 24 for a third place finish. Next weekend the team travels to Calvert City, Kentucky for a two show weekend. For more info visit our schedule page.

World Finals Recap - 2009 Monster Jam Team Of The Year Award

March 29, 2009

-The 2009 World Finals have come and gone and it was an interesting weekend for the Stone Crusher crew. The action kicked off Friday night in practice but not the way driver Steve Sims intended. While coming down the straight-away the truck got out of shape tagging the bus stack for freestyle flipping the truck over violently. Sims was able to walk away however the Stone Crusher needed several repairs. The crew thrashed throughout the night and were able to get the Stone Crusher ready for the event Saturday night. With the crash Friday night Sims was seeded 24th in the field and had to face Madusa in the first round. It was a close race with Madusa narrowly coming away with the win. After being knocked out early in racing Sims came out in freestyle looking for redemption attacking the track from the start with several huge jumps. Problems with the rear-stearing and a flat tire couldn't stop Sims as he pushed the truck to it's limits before a wild crossthread manuver sent the truck onto it's lid. The run would score a 26 putting Stone Crusher into a 3-way tie for fifth place with Safe Auto and Nitro Circus. Although Stone Crusher didn't pick up any trophies Saturday night the Monster Truck Unlimited (Stone Crusher and Mopar Magic) team came away with the team of the year award at Sunday's awards banquet. This is the second year in a row the team has picked up the award and are looking forward to many more. Now the winter season is through with it's time to head outdoors for some awesome summer shows. Head on over to our schedule page to see where the Stone Crusher is headed next.

March 4, 2009

-After last weekend a somewhat rough weekend in Tampa the team traveled to Jacksonville for one of the biggest stadium events of the year. In racing Steve Sims had a tough draw early with a loss against Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction in round one. In freestyle Sims looked to redeem himself and came out on fire. Nothing on the floor was safe as Sims put the Stone Crusher through it's paces flying over the stacks. Sims not only filled the regulation clock but went well beyond the bonus time before rolling the truck after attempting to crossthread the FMX hill earning fifth place finish in freestyle. Stone Crusher Returns To Tampa!

February 24, 2009

-The Stone Crusher returned to Tampa for the second time after last year's muddy monsoon of an event. With good weather and a packed house of Monster Jam fans it was a great night for racing. In the first round Sims faced off against the legendary Dennis Anderson and Grave Digger. The two were neck and neck over the first two passes over the cars but Anderson narrowly edged out Stone Crusher for the win. In freestyle came out and attacked the course early taking on the giant FMX hill getting huge air and upon landing throwing the truck into a weird bounce. Sims was able to save the truck however an obvious stearing problem would end his efforts early. Next weekend the team will be heading north to Jacksonville for another stadium event.

January 21, 2009

-Welcome to the new-look Stone Crusher web site! We still have a few pages in progress, but most are functioning. Those that aren't soon will be. Since our last update Stone Crusher and company visited the cities of Montgomery, Alabama and Detroit, Michigan. In Montgomery Steve Sims and Stone Crusher were on a tear racking up six wins in the course of the weekend with two racing wins, two freestyle wins, and a donut contest win in the three shows.

Sims looked to carry the momentum to Detroit's Ford Field in front of a packed house. In the first round Sims took out fastest qualifier Linsey Weenk in Blue Thunder showing the Ford executives in attendance that Blue Thunder wasn't the only big blue Ford in attendance. In freestyle Sims came out fast pushing Stone Crusher hard however a steering issue midway through his run hampered his efforts. It didn't hold him back for long as Sims flew the truck over the huge stacks on the floor much to the joy of the Michigan fans.
