Stone Crusher Makes A Move in Minnesota

December 11, 2011

-In six years the Stone Crusher team has been all over the country performing on many of the sport's biggest stages, and this weekend they crossed another off their list, the Metrodome. The venue has soon all the sport's best and Saturday night was no different, as sixteen trucks took to the track to compete in a Monster Jam event to remember. The night would be the first of many as Steve Sims and company look to begin their 2012 campaign to return to the World Finals next March. Racing didn't quite go the way Sims had hoped as the Stone Crusher saw an early exit with a first round defeat to Marc McDonald and El Toro Loco.

While the Stone Crusher didn't get to make much of an impact in racing, Steve Sims made a statement in freestyle with a spectacular run. In typical fashion, Sims went straight into the run with a strong start, getting some good air on his first three jumps. On the fourth, Sims crossthreaded a van stack, getting great air, before a bad bounce pirouetted the truck up onto the left front tire as Sims was able to bring the truck back down to all four's. All bet's were off from that point on as Sims continued on with many massive leaps over the two minute run. The performance was good enough to take the lead at the time, and hold up for fifth place against the sport's strongest competitors.

Stone Crusher Stands Tall in Hampton

November 14, 2011

-November is an interesting month every year for the Stone Crusher team. As the 2011 season winds down and preparations begin for the first quarter of 2012, the team has one last hurrah in front of their dedicated hometown fans at the Hampton Coliseum. Diver Steve Sims always comes into a hometown show focused and ready to perform at the highest level. This weekend was no different, and he showed as much to start things off Friday night in the wheelie contest. Sims roared out of the pits and got the Stone Crusher vertical on both attempts, planting the back tires in the top of racing ramps. The effort would be good enough to take the win. In racing, Sims got a first round win of Grinder, before being knocked out in a close race by Son-Uva Digger. Freestyle saw a great run from Sims and the Stone Crusher. Sims wasted no time in his run, attacking the course right away with a big jump off the FMX landing ramp. From there, Sims tore across the floor with several big jumps before closing out his run with a salute the loyal fans.

Saturday's festivities began with the pit party as thousands of fans came down to the floor to meet and greet with drivers and their trucks. After siging autographs and visiting with many of his local fans, Sims took to the track in the wheelie contest. Once again Sims put the nose of the Stone Crusher skyward, picking up his second straight wheelie contest win. Racing saw an early exit after a narrow defeat to Randy Brown and the Grave Digger. Saturday night saw another blistering freestyle run, as Sims soared the Stone Crusher throughout his run. Sims performed well beyond his timed run, giving it all for his fans, before closing out his run with a final jump over the FMX ramp to a second place finish.

Stone Crusher Working Hard in Wildwood

October 11, 2011

-For the second time this year, the Stone Crusher got to spend a weekend at the beach, as the team traveled to Wildwood, New Jersey for the annual Thunder on the Beach. For three days the Jersey Shore was turned into a giant sandbox for the monster trucks to play in. Driver Steve Sims always performs well in the unique event, and this year was no difference. Sims was consistently in the semi-finals throughout the weekend in racing. In freestyle Sims shined with several great freestyle performances in the Stone Crusher. On Saturday night the Sims put the Stone Crusher on top, coming away with the win in freestyle. After picking up the win Saturday night, Sims came back on Sunday with another great performance, that including many giant jumps before a broken four-link bar ended the Stone Crusher's run.

With Wildwood in the books, the Stone Crusher team is in the shop getting ready for the final events of the season, as well as preparing for the upcoming 2012 season. Check back soon for more Stone Crusher news to come in the near future.

In Memory of Justin Jeffers

August 21, 2011

-With heavy hearts, we are saddened to say that the Monster Trucks Unlimited team lost one of its own. Justin Jeffers, 23, was killed in a fatal car crash early Friday morning. Jeffers was an integral member of the crew, often seen turning wrenches on the trucks at events, or hard at work at the shop.

Jeffers was not only a great crew member, but a relative of the Sims family, as a cousin to Steve Sims. Jeffers often reffered to Sims as "Uncle Steve," as the Sims family helped raise Jeffers. His memory lives on forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace Justin.

Stone Crusher Goes Back to the Back to School Bash

August 18, 2011

-For the third year in a row the Stone Crusher team returned to the friendly confines of the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the annual Back To School Bash. A favorite amongs fans and drivers alike, the event stirs up a lot of excitement as one of the most unique events of the year. After a great time with all the fans in the pit party, it was time for qualifying, as driver Steve Sims strapped into the Stone Crusher for his attempt. As Sims left the pits, something went awry right away, as it became clear something wasn't right in the driveline. Upon return to the pits, the crew discoverd a broken input shaft was the culprit. The breakage would sideline the truck from racing, but the crew thrashed on the Stone Crusher all night, and were able to have the truck repaired in time for freestyle.

After a disapointing breakage in qualifying, Sims and the Stone Crusher came out for redemption in freestyle. As the first competitor out, Sims wasted no time in getting the packed house rocking with a strong start to freestyle, as he whipped the truck around the massive infield of the speedway. Sims pushed the Stone Crusher to its limits getting several big air launches over the bus stack, multiple cross-threads, and a vertical wheelstand over the cross-over landing ramp.

With some time off between events, the Stone Crusher team is hard at work at the shop in Virginia Beach, working on several projects in the coming weeks. Be on the lookout for all new merchandise, as well as all the latest news here and on our facebook page.

In freestyle, Sims let it all hang out, with a great freestyle. The over 3 minute long run saw plenty of big air leaps out of the Stone Crusher before Sims pulled the truck up onto the straight-away to salute all the great fans in attendance to close out his freestyle.

Stone Crusher Tears Up Sam Boyd Stadium in the World Finals

April 2, 2011

-As the regular season came to a close the Stone Crusher team embarked on the journey west to Las Vegas, Nevada. For the fourth year in a row driver Steve Sims was invited back to compete in the Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam to square off with 24 of the best drivers in the sport. The festivities kicked off on Friday with the Double Down event where thousands of the most die hard Monster Jam fans came out for the private pit-party and qualifying. After hours of signing autographs Sims geared up for qualifying. During his two practice runs Sims was very consistent and improved considerably on each pass. In his Qualifying pass Sims picked up a great amount of speed with a 16.70 second effort for 12th place.

On Saturday it was time for the biggest spectacle in monster truck racing. The packed Sam Boyd Stadium was electric as the event got started. In the first round of racing Sims had a tough opponent in Jon Zimmer and Amsoil Shock Therapy. When the light turned green, the Stone Crusher flew down Thunder Alley towards the turn with the lead. Sims made a smooth run and sailed to victory. Unfortunately after the finish it became clear something wasn't right with the truck. Despite the crew's best efforts the truck was unable to be repaired in time to make the call for the second round.

After a disapointing early exit in racing the Stone Crusher was ready for freestyle. Sims traversed the tough track as he got to work early in his freestyle taking on everything in his path. With massive air and some great vertical leaps the truck lasted throughout regulation and bonus time. In his last jump in bonus time the truck suffered some breakage to the steering, but that wouldn't stop Sims. The determined driver wouldn't stop there as he continued on for all the fans. The truck finally came to a stop a minute later after Sims got crossed up over the center hill and ended up on it's side. The run would earn a score of 24 which was good enough for 10th place at the end of the night.

Once again, it was a great showing on the sport's largest stage as Sims and the Stone Crusher performed well. Another grueling first quarter was in the books and the team wrapped up another awesome winter season.

The last time the team was in Syracuse, driver Steve Sims picked up a huge racing victory over Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction at the State Fairgrounds. This visit however brought the team to the Carrier Dome for its first ever Monster Jam event. Sims was on his game in Syracuse with just one event before the World Finals in Las Vegas. In racing Sims picked up a first round victory over Brutus. In the second round Sims was beaten by Madusa, but she pushed her truck too hard, and suffered heavy damage giving the Stone Crusher a reprieve into the semi-finals. Sims took advantage and knocked out Superman to advance to the finals. The final round match up pitted Sims against Dennis Anderson and Grave Digger. The two squared off for a great race but in the end it was Anderson coming away with the racing victory over the Stone Crusher. Following a great performance in racing it was time for freestyle. Sims rocked the Carrier Dome with a fantastic run from the Stone Crusher. The over two minute long run featured plenty of big air leaps, a nice save after getting crossed up over a van stack, and some spectacular crossthreads. The run scored a 26 which would tie for third place with Brutus and the Lucas Oil Crusader.

This week the team returns back home to Virginia Beach as they will spend the next week getting the truck ready for the trip out west to Las Vegas for the World Finals.

Migues Goes All Out in Oakland

(Photo Courtesy of Chris Cleveland - C.D. Imaging)

March 2, 2011

-Darren Migues came off a great weekend in Spokane as he brought the Stone Crusher to the Oakland, California for a major stadium event at the Oakland Coliseum. The chilly temperatures didn't slow Migues down at all as he started off the night strong in racing with a round one victory over Mark Schroeder and The Felon. From there Migues took out M2D Thunder in the second round for a semi-final match up with Charlie Pauken and Grave Digger. The Digger was no match for Stone Crusher as Migues would meet a familiar foe in Nick Owens and Iron Outlaw for the final round. The race was tightly contested as Migues looked to take the lead in the final corner, but he cut the turn too tight, clipping a turning car and coming up just shy of the victory.

After the narrow racing defeat Migues brought the Stone Crusher back in freestyle for a great freestyle run. Migues delivered a performance packed with plenty of big air and wheelies as he pushed the Stone Crusher to the limit. After nearly three minutes Migues finally came to a stop with a flat right rear tire. The run scored a 23 in regulation along with 2 bonus points for a total of 25. The score would land Migues and Stone Crusher a third place finish in freestyle.

Sims and Migues Dominate Racing in Memphis and Spokane

February 23, 2011

-While Steve Sims and Darren Migues were on opposite ends of the country, the veteran drivers both had great weekends behind the wheel of their Stone Crusher's. Sims brough his Stone Crusher to Memphis, Tennessee's for two shows at the Fed Ex Forum. The action kicked off on Friday night where Sims picked up a racing win in the finals over teammate Morgan Kane and Mopar Magic. Other results from the night saw Sims tie for second in the wheelie competition and an out right second place finish in freestyle. Saturday night saw similar results as Sims once again picked up a racing win over Mopar Magic. Once again Sims came up just short of the freestyle victory taking second place.

Meanwhile, in Spokane, Darren Migues was at the Spokane Arena for a grueling four show weekend. Migues started off the weekend on a high note with a spectacular wheelie contest win on Friday night. Saturday afternoon saw Migues take a tough route on his way to the final round. After a first round loss, Migues returned as a fast loser to face Tony Farrell and Grave Digger The Legend. Migues took advantage of the reprieve, taking out Grave Digger The Legend for a rematch with Iron Outlaw in the finals. This time it was Migues with the upper hand picking up the final round win. The two saw each other once again in the first round during the Saturday night event. The Stone Crusher fell to Iron Outlaw but once again would return as the fast loser. Migues took advantage once again, picking up a win over Captain USA, before taking out Grave Digger The Legend in the finals. Sunday saw a similar story play out again. Migues lost in the first round to Iron Outlaw and once again was able to come back as the fastest loser. Yet again, Migues was able to capitalize and take out Grave Digger The Legend in the semi finals. In the finals Migues piloted the Stone Crusher to its third racing win of the weekend as he took out Charles Benns and the Monster Mutt Rottweiler.

This coming weekend will be busy for all members of the Stone Crusher team with major stadium events on both coasts. Steve Sims will be in Jacksonville at EverBank Field, while Darren Migues will be at the Oakland Coliseum in California.

Steve Sims Soars Stone Crusher in Miami

February 15, 2011

-The Stone Crusher team returned to Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida for another major stadium event. Two years ago driver Steve Sims had a breakout performance in Miami as he picked up a racing win along with a second place freestyle. Sims looked at home on the sandy racing surface and quickly proved to be a threat once again to win in Miami. In the first round Sims knocked out Predator to face off with Grinder in round two. The Grinder was no match for Stone Crusher as Sims advanced to the semi finals. Sims was able to take out Michigan Ice Monster in the semi finals to move on to square off with Mohawk Warrior in the final round. Sims got the lead early and held on until the final corner as the truck slid wide, causing one tire to just miss fully hitting the final ramp, giving Sims a five second penalty and handing the win to Mohawk Warrior.

After a disapointing final round result Sims sought redemption in freestyle. Sims didn't waste any time getting to work as he came straight out of his pit spot and jumped the first obstacle in his path. The run saw the Stone Crusher sail over all the freestyle stacks and some great crossthreads as well. Just seconds into bonus time Sims took an awkward bounce that pitched the truck over and onto it's lid. Despite his run getting cut short, Sims managed to score a 22 which was good enough for a fourth place finish.

From Miami, it's on to Memphis, Tennessee for the Stone Crusher team as they get ready for a two show weekend at the Fed Ex Forum. For more info on all of our events check out our schedule.

-The Pepsi Coliseum in Denver, Colorado played host to three Monster Jam shows over the weekend. Darren Migues and Stone Crusher had another successful weekend in competition. Migues was a top contender in every event scoring well in both the wheelie and freestyle competitions. On Sunday Migues put together a great run including a nice save to score a 26 to tie with Rod Schmidt and Grave Digger for first place. The tie breaker judge awarded the victory to Schmidt. The next stop for Migues is in Spokane, Washington for a four show weekend at the Spokane Arena.

Stone Crusher Flighs High in Houston

February 9, 2011

-After back to back weeks in the Sunshine State of Florida, the Stone Crusher team headed west to Houston, Texas for a major stadium event inside Reliant Stadium. Driver Steve Sims has been strong all year behind the wheel of his all new Stone Crusher, and Houston would be no different. In racing Sims was taken out early in round one by Blue Thunder, but came out determined in freestyle. Sims brought the packed house to their feet with a fantastic run from start to finish with high flying leaps and some of the best crossthreads of the night. Two flat front tires would cut short Sims' efforts but the run was good enough to score a 22 in regulation along with two bonus points for a total of 24. The score would put Sims in a three way tie with Dennis Anderson and Grave Digger, and Neil Elliott and Maximum Destruction, for second place.

The next stop for Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher team is at Sun LIfe Stadium in Miami, Florida, as they look to continue their great sucess in the 2011 season.

Freestyle Mania Continues in East Rutherford

February 9, 2011

-Following a great showing in Uniondale, Darren Migues took the Stone Crusher to the Izod Center for a three show Freestyle Mania weekend in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Migues had a great weekend in Stone Crusher picking up several wins along the way. The weekend's wheelie competitions were swept by Migues, winning all three. On Friday Migues also picked up a win in the Maniac Challenge. After damage sidelined the truck during the Saturday afternoon freestyle, Migues found redemption as he scored the freestyle victory on Saturday night. Migues' next stop on the schedule is in Denver, Colorado.

Continued Success For Stone Crusher in Orlando

February 2, 2011

-The Stone Crusher team didn't have too far to travel for their next event, as they traveled to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The Orlando Monster Jam is one of the largest annual stops on the Monster Jam tour and driver Steve Sims didn't disapoint. With packed house of over 60,000 fans the Citrus Bowl was rocking when it came to show time. Round one of racing action saw Stone Crusher taken out by Monster Mutt Dalmation. Sims was able to bring the Stone Crusher back in round two. Stone Crusher would once again be defeated in round two, as Dennis Anderson and Grave Digger moved on.

In freestyle Sims came out charging to start off his run, skying the truck out on his first jump. From there Sims followed up with more big air along with several cross threads, leaving no obstacle untouched. After over two minutes of pushing the truck to it's limits, the right front tire went flat ending a great run. The judges awarded Sims a 22 in regulation, along with 2 points in bonus time for a total of 24. Much like last weekend in Tampa, the score would earn the always consistent Sims third place.

Now the team heads off to Houston, Texas for this weekend's event. Sims has big expectations to follow after teammate Darren Migues doubled down in Houston just two weeks ago.

Uniondale Freestyle Mania No Problem for Stone Crusher

(Photo Courtesy of Steve Parry - AllMonster.com)

January 31, 2011

-For Darren Migues and Stone Crusher, the month of January has been one of great success and achievement. Following a double down in Houston, Migues traveled to Uniondale, New York for a four show stop on the Monster Jam Freestyle Mania tour. Normally the home of the New York Islanders, Nassau Coliseum played host to the weekend's action. Migues had no trouble adapting to the Freestyle Mania format, picking up a freestyle win along with second place finishes in donuts, wheelies, and the maniac challenge on Friday. Saturday afternoon saw continued success as Migues racked up a wheelie contest win, along with second place finishes in the other three competitions. The night show was dominated by Migues, as he racked up another wheelie contest win, along with the freestyle win. Sunday would close out the weekend where Migues scored another wheelie contest victory before finishing second in the rest of the competitions.

"I enjoyed the Freestyle Mania format. With everything that goes on during these events we get a bit more time inbetween runs so it's easier on us," said Migues.

When asked about his success on the weekend Migues said, "I watched all the trucks throughout the weekend and tried to see where I needed to step up and raise the bar. I came out here to run hard and put on great shows. Overall, it was a great weekend."

Next weekend Darren Migues and Stone Crusher will be in East Rutherford, New Jersey for another weekend of Monster Jam Freestyle Mania. Check out our schedule for more information on this event and others.

Stone Crusher Storms into Tampa

January 24, 2011

-After a two show weekend in the Tarheel State, Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher team headed south to Tampa, Florida and Raymond James Stadium for the second major stadium event of the season. The notorious Floridian fans came out in droves to witness all the stars as they took to the course Saturday. The action got under way with racing to start off the event. In round one Sims squared off with Monster Mutt Dalmation and received an easy victory after the Dalmation was sidelined before the first turn with mechanical problems. The Stone Crusher would then fall to Grave Digger in round two to end it's night in racing.

In freestyle Sims wasted no time getting the ball rolling as he soared the Stone Crusher over the massive FMX hill to begin his run. From there Sims worked the all new Stone Crusher as he attacked the floor with big air launches and crossthread manuevers over every obstacle on the course. Sims performed well beyond both the regulation and bonus time periods to the delight of the Sunshine State fans as he scored 20 points in regulation and 4 in bonus time for a total of 24. The score would be good enough for a third place finish in freestyle and a strong end to a great night in Tampa.

After Tampa, it's off to Orlando, Florida and the Citrus Bowl for the second straight weekend of major stadium events. For more information on this event and others visit our schedule page.

Darren Migues Doubles Down In Houston!

January 24, 2011

-Texas has treated Darren Migues and Stone Crusher well so far in 2011. Following a great two day event in San Antonio at the Alamo Dome, Migues made the trip to Houston for an all freestyle event inside the home of the Houston Texans, Reliant Stadium. Before the event Saturday, Migues took the Stone Crusher to the David Smith's Flame Motorsports shop, home of King Krunch and El Matador, to get the truck back to 100% after the truck suffered some damage in San Antonio. By Saturday both Migues and Stone Crusher were ready for action and action they created.

The night's events started off with a wheelie competition on the elaborate course laid out by the track crew. Each competitor was given four attempts to get the best wheelstands they could. Migues came out firing on the first hit, getting a great rebound on the landing, as he danced the Stone Crusher up onto the right rear tire, dragging the tailgate before clipping a small ramp on the track. The truck was tossed hard to the right but Migues was able to save the truck in spectacular fashion. Migues returned to the same stack for his second attempt and once again got a great slap wheelie dragging the bumper before running out of room. For his third attempt Migues lined up to a steep stack and nosed the truck vertically up the ramp before bringing the front end back to the ground, and then into another slap wheelie. On his final attempt Migues returned to the stack used in the first two attempts, and jumped it from the backside. Once again Migues got a great rebound and pulled the truck up into another great slap wheelie. The run would score a 25 and would be good enough for the win to start off the night.

After a winning performance in the wheelie competition it was on to freestyle where Migues had a chance to pilot the Stone Crusher to a double down. It would be a freestyle to remember as Migues left the pits and went straight to work. The run was spectacular from start to finish, full of big air, slap wheelies, donuts, and perhaps an early candidate for save of the year, after pirouetting the truck around on the left front tire and back on to all four's. "Don't ask me how I pulled that one out," Migues said afterwards. "After getting the wheelie win against that level of competition, I was just feeling it. I wanted to step it up and go for it." Migues did just that as he scored a 28 and the win for the double down in the Lone Star state.

The next stop for Migues is Uniondale, New York for a four show Freestyle Mania weekend at the Nassau Coliseum. For more dates, be sure to visit check out our schedule.

Stone Crusher Returns to Greensboro

January 17, 2011

-The Stone Crusher team returned the familiar confines of the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina for a two show weekend with a stacked ten truck line up. Following a great opening weekend in Detroit the event in Greensboro looked to be a great chance to dial in the all new Stone Crusher chassis driven by Steve Sims. "I really like the new truck. It was landing pretty well last week. It was bottoming out a little bit but I think we have the truck set up great for a smaller event like this," said Sims. The truck performed well throughout the weekend as it was a strong contender in the racing and wheelie competitions. In freestyle was where Sims shined putting the all new truck to the test on the course. Sims was able to put together two great freestyle runs on the weekend that landed him a third place finish on Friday and a tie for second place on Saturday.

Next weekend it's time to head south as the team travels to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. To see where else Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher are off to check out our schedule.

Stone Crusher Stands Tall in San Antonio

January 17, 2011

-After a strong first weekend behind the wheel of the Stone Crusher, Darren Migues made the trip to San Antonio for a huge two show stadium event in the Alamo Dome. The event featured a massive field of trucks along with a unique layout for both racing and freestyle with large banked turns and freestyle stacks. "I really liked the way the track was setup, it was just really cool," said Migues. The racing course was a chicago style variation that featured a banked first turn and Migues had success early on with the track. During the Saturday night event Migues navigated the Stone Crusher in two round wins; once over King Krunch in the first round and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle in the second round. The third round saw a loss to John Seasock and Grinder but Migues was fast enough to return in the semi-finals as the fastest loser before falling to the Air Force Afterburner.

In freestyle Migues attacked the sprawling floor of the Alamo Dome putting the Stone Crusher to the test in a great freestyle run leaving no obstical unconquered. The action packed run saw plenty of big air along with some fantastic wheelstands including a spectacular wheelie combo where Migues planted the truck vertically in the top of a stack and the slap wheelied out of the rebound upon landing. "I wasn't sure how that was going to work out. I didn't know if it was going to go over backwards there," remarked Migues. The run would pick up a third place in freestyle for the Stone Crusher team for the first day.

The second day of competition at the Alamo Dome saw continued success for Migues and the Stone Crusher. The day kicked off with racing where Migues continued to be a strong contender as he took out Grave Digger in round 1. In round 2 the Stone Crusher was victorious over Bad Habit before taking out a hard charging Raminator in round 3. Migues continued on in the semi-finals taking out the Bounty Hunter before moving onto the finals. The final round race saw a match up with the Air Force Afterburner in a tight race. The two trucks were neck and neck with Stone Crusher having the lead halfway through but the truck broke loose rounding a corner and Migues was unable to make up the difference in time. "It was pretty close. The back end just got loose and I couldn't bring it around," said Migues.

After a great day of racing it was time for freestyle. Migues once again put on a spectacular performance to the delight of the huge crowd on hand at the Alamo Dome. The run went the length of the 90 second regulation time before a broken spindle cut short a chance to score some bonus points. The run was good enough for fourth place to close out the weekend.

The next stop for Darren Migues and Stone Crusher will be Reliant Stadium for an all freestyle event next weekend. For more information this event and others take a look at our 2011 schedule.

New Additions in the Opening Weekend of 2011

January 11, 2011

-This past weekend started off a new year and brought about a new era for the Stone Crusher team. In Detroit it was Steve Sims getting to drive his first show behind the wheel of the all new Stone Crusher that was completed during the off season. The newly designed Patrick chassis truck performed well in it's first event as Sims looked fast in racing with a solid qualifying pass and a first round win before falling to eventual event winner Lee O'Donnell and Ironman. In freestyle Sims got a good chance to get a feel for the new piece getting some great air and crossthreading across the track throughout his run. Sims' efforts would score a 21.

Meanwhile, in Des Moines, it was Darren Migues in the drivers seat of Stone Crusher for the first time ever. Migues had no trouble getting used to the Stone Crusher as he had a great start to the new season. The weekend saw Migues put the Stone Crusher on the tailgate several times as he won two of the three wheelie competitions. Migues also performed well in freestyle picking up a win in the Saturday afternoon event.

Next weekend is another busy weekend for the team as Steve Sims will be in Greensboro, NC for two shows at the Greensboro Colisum while Darren Migues will be in San Antonio for two shows at the Alamo Dome. For more info on these shows and others check out our schedule.

Two Wins To Kick Off Hometown Weekend

November 12, 2010

-Once again the Stone Crusher team returned to the Hampton Coliseum Friday night for the start of a two show weekend in front of thousands of hometown fans that packed the stands. Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher came out firing in the wheelie competition. Sims flew the truck past vertical, twisting sideways in the air before slamming the tailgate down into the final car as the truck slowly came back to all fours. Sims' efforts would score a 27 from the judges and was enough to pick up the wheelie contest win.

Sims continued his winning ways in racing as he took out Iron Warrior in the first round before emerging victorious in the semi-finals over Black Stallion. The finals saw a rematch as Iron Warrior advanced as a fast loser from the first round but once again it was the Stone Crusher picking up the win.

Sims had his eyes set on sweeping the opening night as he took to the track in freestyle. After two hits over the cars Sims unleashed the Stone Crusher as he soared over the FMX landing ramp with a gigantic leap. As Sims spun the truck around to hit the cars for a sky wheelie something let loose in the drivetrain and cut his run short and his chances for the sweep. The action gets started again tomorrow night at 5:00 PM with the pit party so come out and join us!

The fans arrived early by the thousands for the pit party where they had the chance to ride in the Stone Crusher ride truck as former driver Gary Wiggins gave the fans a taste of what the drivers would experience during the nights action. Driver Steve Sims relished the chance to take on the tricky crossover course in qualifying and laid down a great pass qualifying second. Sims would win by a large margin over War Wizard in the first round but an awkward landing over the final jump would sideline the truck for the next round. In freestyle Sims let it all hang out in freestyle as he soared the Stone Crusher over the freestyle stacks before ending up on his lid after a soft rollover coming over a car stack. "That jump was a bit of a gamble and it just didn't work out," reflected Sims following the run. -For the third straight year the Stone Crusher team traveled west to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in this year's NGK Spark Plugs World Finals. The festivities kicked off Friday night at the Double Down Qualifying event. In the first round Sims made a great pass on the fast and technical Vegas j-hook track and managed to take out Blackwell and Captian's Curse. From there it was on to the second round where Sims would fall to Jon Zimmer and Amsoil Shock Therapy.

After racing it was on to freestyle. Sims took to the track and came out on fire with a gigantic leap over the racing lane. The truck bounced onto the sidewalls as Sims kept his composure and performed an incredible save that had the fans up and cheering. The run was filled with huge leaps throughout minute and a half regulation period an into bonus time. On his final jump Sims put the truck into orbit with another incredible leap. Another bad bounce put the truck back on the sidewalls and despite Sims' best effort to make another save the truck laid over on its side to close out an outstanding freestyle. The run would earn a score of 28 for a fourth place finish at the end of the competition.

The Saturday evening event followed the trend as Sims was once again in the finals only to be edged out by Randy Brown and Grave Digger. -The Stone Crusher team returned to the Hampton Coliseum for it's final event of the year in front of the hometown crowd. Sims started off strong with a second place finish in the wheelie contest behind team mate Mopar Magic. In racing Sims was able to make it to the finals and come away with a win over Randy Brown and Grave Digger. In freestyle, it was a big air assault from the Sims in the tight confines of the Coliseum. The run would score well and come up just one point shy of the win. On Saturday the fans packed the house as a sell out crowd was on hand cheering their hometown hero. Sims once again was strong in the wheelie competition finishing second to Mopar Magic. In racing the Stone Crusher continued to look strong and made it to the final round against El Toro Loco. Sims was able to come away with the win but a bad bounce nearly sent the Stone Crusher over. The truck got up onto the sidewalls but Sims was able to save the truck from rolling over. After the close call in racing Sims let it all hang out in freestyle with great momentum, huge leaps, and even a crossthread of the FMX hill. The run would be good enough for the win edging out Grave Digger by one point. Stone Crusher Soars In Charlotte!

August 18, 2009

-After four years the Stone Crusher team made it's return to the Dirt Track At Lowe's Motor Speedway for the 10th Annual Back To School bash. Former teammate Carl VanHorn took over the reigns of the Stone Crusher for the weekend while Steve Sims was unable to attend the event. VanHorn was excited to be behind the wheel for the first time in six months and there was no rust showing when he took to the challenging crossover track as he qualified second out of the field of ten. In the first round the Stone Crusher took out Brutus by half a truck length in one of the closest races of the night. Once again in the second round Stone Crusher squared off with Brutus after Chris Bergeron returned as a fast loser however VanHorn won with ease. In the semi-finals the teammates faced off as Stone Crusher took out Mopar Magic to make it into the finals against Equalizer. VanHorn came away with the hole shot and remained close but a bad jump on the final stretch sent the truck sideways costing Stone Crusher the win.

Following the tough second place finish in racing VanHorn came out charging in freestyle with a great high speed slap wheelie along the backstretch and a huge leap over a van stack. A bad bounce however damaged a four-link bar as VanHorn attempted to go into a donut the rear end of the truck came loose and sent the Stone Crusher on it's lid. VanHorn emerged unscathed however the same could not be said for the truck as all four four-link bars were broken along with the driveshaft and several shocks. West Lebanon and Stafford Springs Recaps

July 28, 2009

-The Stone Crusher team made the trek to New York to one of monster truck racing's most legendary venues for their first visit to the Lebanon Valley Speedway. The notoriously difficult front stretch was tough to tame in racing but driver Steve Sims managed to get into the semi-finals Tuesday night. In freestyle Sims was strong delivering great performances in all three shows including a second place effort Wednesday night that had crowd up and cheering.

After West Lebanon the team was off to Stafford Springs to visit another one of monster truck racing's storied summer stops at the Stafford Motor Speedway. Saturday afternoon saw the beginning of the weekend's action and Steve Sims found himself in the finals despite losing in the semi-finals to Randy Brown and the Grave Digger due to engine troubles but Tom Meents was unstoppable and took the win. After racing turned in a solid freestyle performance earning a 23 for his efforts. Just hours later they were back at it for the night show. After a tie for second in the wheelie contest and a first round exit in racing it was onto freestyle. The Stone Crusher was charging hard with big air and good momentum when a jump over the van stack tossed the truck sideways in the air causing the truck roll over hard. Sims emerged unscathed but the same could not be said for the truck. Broken shocks, four-link bars, and damage to the cradle would sideline the Stone Crusher for Sunday's event. This weekend it's back to Virginia for the Stone Crusher for two nights of action at the Augusta Expoland in Fishersville, Virginia. For more info head over to our schedule page to see where the Stone Crusher is headed next!

Steve Sims got the sold out crowd fired up early in the wheelie contest with two near vertical leaps that would tie him for second with Grave Digger. That lucky break was all that Sims need as he took out Grave Digger in the semi-finals and would move on to face Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction in the finals. Sims managed to get the whole shot and was able to settle down in the second no-mans land and flew the Stone Crusher to the win. Fresh off the racing win Sims came out in freestyle like a man possesed soaring over the obstacles. A cut tire would end his run prematurely scoring a 24 for a third place finish. World Finals Recap - 2009 Monster Jam Team Of The Year Award

March 29, 2009

-The 2009 World Finals have come and gone and it was an interesting weekend for the Stone Crusher crew. The action kicked off Friday night in practice but not the way driver Steve Sims intended. While coming down the straight-away the truck got out of shape tagging the bus stack for freestyle flipping the truck over violently. Sims was able to walk away however the Stone Crusher needed several repairs. The crew thrashed throughout the night and were able to get the Stone Crusher ready for the event Saturday night. With the crash Friday night Sims was seeded 24th in the field and had to face Madusa in the first round. It was a close race with Madusa narrowly coming away with the win. After being knocked out early in racing Sims came out in freestyle looking for redemption attacking the track from the start with several huge jumps. Problems with the rear-stearing and a flat tire couldn't stop Sims as he pushed the truck to it's limits before a wild crossthread manuver sent the truck onto it's lid. The run would score a 26 putting Stone Crusher into a 3-way tie for fifth place with Safe Auto and Nitro Circus. Although Stone Crusher didn't pick up any trophies Saturday night the Monster Truck Unlimited (Stone Crusher and Mopar Magic) team came away with the team of the year award at Sunday's awards banquet. This is the second year in a row the team has picked up the award and are looking forward to many more. Now the winter season is through with it's time to head outdoors for some awesome summer shows. Head on over to our schedule page to see where the Stone Crusher is headed next.

-The Stone Crusher returned to Tampa for the second time after last year's muddy monsoon of an event. With good weather and a packed house of Monster Jam fans it was a great night for racing. The two were neck and neck over the first two passes over the cars but Anderson narrowly edged out Stone Crusher for the win. In freestyle came out and attacked the course early taking on the giant FMX hill getting huge air and upon landing throwing the truck into a weird bounce. Sims was able to save the truck however an obvious stearing problem would end his efforts early. Next weekend the team will be heading north to Jacksonville for another stadium event.

It was a great showing for the Hampton Roads native starting the weekend off on Friday night with a close loss in the final round against team mate Ricky Ownley and Mopar Magic. Freestyle saw the beginning of a weekend long big air showdown between Sims and reigning World Finals Freestyle Champion Adam Anderson. In all four freestyle competitions from the weekend Sims was putting the truck into orbit with huge launches over the obstacles on the floor. When the dust settled Sunday evening Sims came away with one racing win, one freestyle win, and one wheelie contest win along with several second place freestyles. Next the team is once again off to Florida for another stadium event in Tampa, Florida.

Stone Crusher Wins Racing in Miami - Strong Performance in Charleston

February 10, 2009

-It's been a busy two weeks for the Stone Crusher team since our last update. Things kicked off in Miami with qualifying, where Steve Sims looked strong in posting the fourth-fastest time. Sims would then take out Gun Slinger, Escalade, and teammate Mopar Magic, setting up the finals against Blue Thunder. Sims remained deadly consistent and was able to pick up an easy win after Blue Thunder spun out. Looking to sweep the event, Sims put the Stone Crusher through it's paces in freestyle, putting down a great run that was scored a 31, just one point shy of the victory.

After Miami, the team traveled to Charleston, West Virginia for a three-show weekend inside the Charleston Civic Center. Sims had a solid weekend, picking up two wheelie contest wins, a final round appearance in racing Friday night, and two second-place freestyles on the wekeend. This weekend, the team is coming home for a four-show weekend in Hampton. For more information on the shows, head to our Schedule page. January 21, 2009

-Welcome to the new-look Stone Crusher web site! We still have a few pages in progress, but most are functioning. Those that aren't soon will be. Since our last update Stone Crusher and company visited the cities of Montgomery, Alabama and Detroit, Michigan. In Montgomery Steve Sims and Stone Crusher were on a tear racking up six wins in the course of the weekend with two racing wins, two freestyle wins, and a donut contest win in the three shows.

Sims looked to carry the momentum to Detroit's Ford Field in front of a packed house. In the first round Sims took out fastest qualifier Linsey Weenk in Blue Thunder showing the Ford executives in attendance that Blue Thunder wasn't the only big blue Ford in attendance. In freestyle Sims came out fast pushing Stone Crusher hard however a steering issue midway through his run hampered his efforts. It didn't hold him back for long as Sims flew the truck over the huge stacks on the floor much to the joy of the Michigan fans. For now the team is gearing up and getting ready to head south for this weekends event in sunny Orlando, Florida at the legendary Citrus Bowl. For more information on this event head over to our schedule page. For now, check out the new site and please pardon any bugs.
